Hugism

Hugism is based on the norse word “hug” which meant thought or soul, with the two concepts closely linked in old norse society. The concept is perhaps most famously personified in the raven Hugin, who would along with Munin travel all over the world to inform Odin of what was happening. Hugin would see and analyze the world, Munin would remember.

Hugism is a mindset based around the core value that human life, happiness and freedom is natural and good. Further, this value judgement applies to all humans, in every part of the world. The goal of Hugism is therefore a dual call to action: seek to understand the world around you, and seek to improve it using that knowledge.

I write about conflicts and struggles all over the world, with a preference for those areas that are the most poorly understood. The fastest progress can be made where the least has already been done, this holds true for learning and international solidarity in equal measure.

You can also become a hugist. Improve the world wherever you can, whether that is through donations, volunteer work, voting, or any other way to influence society in a way beyond what furthers your own interests. Most important is to always approach the world with curiosity.
